Tuesday 14th July, 1998
- As we approach the halfway mark of the Championship, injuries are really starting to test the depth of squads and also the skill of managers in juggling their players. A record number of players will be out of action in Round 9 with only Warwick Todd's XI and the previously injury-ravaged Zimbabwe at full strength. The full list of injured players is:

In a surprise move, Mustafa is likely to overlook the claims of both Steve Waugh and Ian Healy and is expected to announce the appointment of Shane Warne as captain.

- Former Australian Test batsman Warwick Todd will captain and manage a team of former Test greats, as the tenth team in the league.
- In return for this generous donation of his time, the league shall be known as "Warwick Todd's World Test Cricket Championship".
